Donington Park reveals 2016 race events calendar

The full Donington Park provisional race event calendar for 2016 has been revealed, with motorsport taking place on almost every weekend from March until the end of October.

Donington will again be host to several major racing events with the highlight being the MOTUL FIM Superbike World Championship, which returns on 27-29 May. Other premier motorcycle events at the circuit in 2016 include the Donington Classic Motorcycle Festival on 5-7 August, and the key autumn date of the MCE Insurance British Superbike Championship, which is the first round of the series’ crucial ‘Showdown’ phase, on 16-18 September.

Four wheel racing’s star events are highlighted by the now traditional April date for the Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship (16-17 April), followed by the return of the Donington Historic Festival on April 30 – 2 May, the FIA Masters Festival on 2-3 July, the family friendly British Truck Racing Championship on 23-24 July and the season finales for both the British GT and BRDC F4 Championships on 10-11 September.

The season starts and finishes with rally events from the Dukeries Motor Club on March 6 and October 23, with a full schedule of national car and motorcycle race meetings throughout the year, making a total of 30 events scheduled.

In the New Year, Donington will also be announcing a major new event to take place on 16-17 July. Further details regarding the Fast Car Festival on 30-31 July are to follow also.

Tickets are already on sale for the majority of the promoted events, through the Donington Park website www.donington-park.co.uk. Season passes are also available for purchase, offering significant savings for those planning on attending multiple race meetings.

Donington Park Managing Director Christopher Tate commented: “We are very pleased to confirm our provisional race calendar for 2016. As ever, Donington will be providing fantastic value for money, and above all else, some really exciting racing events throughout the year. With major events including the prestigious World Superbikes and some of Britain’s biggest championships including the ever-popular British Superbikes and British Touring Cars, we are looking forward to what promises to be another fantastic year of racing at Donington.

“We also have exciting plans for a brilliant new event in July, which we will be revealing in more detail  in January.”
